Reserves - Guidelines for Faculty and Instructors

The Biology Library offers instructional support by providing access to reserve materials in both print and electronic formats.

How to Submit Reserve Lists

Course reserve requests can be brought in-person to the Biology Library, or you can submit via email to Kathryn Maloney. Please email or call 262-2223 if you have any questions about reserve services and procedures.

All requests must include the following information:

  • Name of Instructor and contact information
  • Department
  • Course Name and number

Print Reserves

  1. In addition to requesting books from our collection to be placed on reserve, you may supply print materials such as journal articles, books chapters, lecture notes, readers, review tests, etc.
  2. Requests must include complete bibliographic citations.
  3. Please indicate if you wish the print materials to be placed on OPEN RESERVE (in-library use only) or CLOSED RESERVE (can be checked out for 3 hours).
  4. Items not owned by the library may be ordered for purchase. Please place your request at least 3-4 weeks ahead of time to allow for ordering, shipping and processing.
  5. Materials will be processed in the order received. Please allow time for staff to recall books from patrons and to process materials.
  6. All reserve materials are withdrawn at the end of each semester. Personal copies will be returned to the instructor.
  7. The library is not responsible for instructor-owned items placed on reserve that are damaged or lost.

E-Reserves

  1. Prepare your materials to facilitate scanning of readings for e-reserves.
    • Photocopies must be clean, single-sided, with at least .5 inch margin.
    • Each article and book chapter submitted for e-reserves must include a full citation.
  2. Access to articles available from licensed electronic journals will be via a direct link to the licensed database. Please provide a stable URL for the article if possible.
